About Dr. Hooper
Halden Wayne Hooper, Jr., MD, returned to Gallatin, TN, in the summer of 1093 to begin the practice of family medicine with Family Practice Associates. After graduating from Gallatin Sr. High School in 1972, Wayne went to Hanover, NH, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude from Dartmouth College in 1976. He returned to Tennessee to attend the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine from 1976 to 1980. After receiving his medical degree, he completed a residency in Family Practice at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC, in 1983.
Wayne was married the summer after his sophomore year in college, in 1974, to Barbara Brooks, also of Gallatin. Together they have parented four children to adulthood, Hal Brooks (1976), Michael Hee (1977), Sarah Maria (1980) and Christie Deanne (1981). He and Barbara maintain a home in Gallatin, are active gardeners, and while Barbara is an enthusiastic tennis player, Wayne remains an avid pilot and woodworker.
Three of the Hooper children have gone on to careers as Physicians and his youngest has gone on to become a Child Life Specialist. The three oldest have married, and Wayne and Barbara are now grandparents x 2.
Wayne is on the active staff of Sumner Regional Medical Center and continues a full-time practice in Family Medicine with Drs. Robert McDaniel, Clay MacConnell, Steve Bennett, Henry Lau, Brian Stuart, Andrew Dill and with Brett Scher, FNP, at Sumner Medical Group. He is Medical Director for Gallatin Health Care and a member of the Sumner County Medical Society and the Tennessee Medical Association, the Tennessee Academy of Family Practice and the American Academy of Family Physicians.
